Fear of Public Speaking & Stage Fright

Public speaking and stress are generally believed to be brothers and sisters. I'm sure you have heard many comparisons and analogies over the years, some of them credible (and completely relatable) and others more on the far-fetched side. While it is obvious that not everyone may be interested in becoming a professional public speaker, the moment your communication skills become a major limiting factor for your career- and self-development opportunities, it becomes worthwhile to take a (much!) closer look, if only to see if it really is an important bottleneck in your life and, more importantly perhaps, what you can and should do about it.

A few questions first

  • Is public speaking stressful for you, extremely stressful, or just occasionally nerve-racking?
  • Your inner voice telling you: “You will fail, people will judge you, laugh or ignore you, preferring to scroll through their social-media instead?
  • Are you feeling tense and anxious before a public speech or presentation?
  • Any other symptoms, like sweaty palms, short breath or panic attacks?
  • Are you confident in your preparation process, creative ideas, structure and content discipline?

Do you sometimes feel you know your presentation style is far from perfect, but you have no clue how to improve it, even marginally, let alone polish your public-speaking skills continuously, without any formal coaching whatsoever?

If any of these questions are relevant to your personal and/or professional experience of publics peaking, online- and offline events and conferences, this 11-minute video might be for you!
